Road Safety on the New Astillero River Viaduct Delivered by Road Steel
7Road Steel is once again playing a key role in making the road network a safer place for all users, this time on the new viaduct over the Astillero River, located on the N-502 national road, a key route connecting Ávila and Córdoba.
The project commissioned by Api Movilidad included the provision of a large part of the comprehensive services that Road Steel makes available to all its clients, offering proven R&D and Engineering capabilities based on experience and a large number of Road Safety projects around the world.
Road Steel was responsible for providing technical advisory and consultancy services in the planning of the new section, as well as for the manufacture of the Vehicle Restraint Systems at our Gonvarri Asturias plant, and the installation and commissioning works, thus ensuring the efficiency and safety performance of our systems.
What products has Road Steel supplied to ensure road safety on this section of road?
PMH-13 Bridge parapets, featuring an H2 containment level and a W4 working width. This system is designed to minimise the risk of vehicles leaving the structure in the event of an accident on viaducts and bridges while maintaining vehicle occupant safety.
BMS1L-H2 Highway guardrails, a product certified according to EN 1317, featuring an H1 containment level and a W2 working width. Its function is to absorb and redirect impacts in areas where there is no risk of vehicles leaving the structure, helping to reduce the severity of accidents.
Transitions between both systems, key elements that ensure the change from one solution to another is carried out without compromising safety or the overall performance of the system in the event of an impact.
The works included repairs, waterproofing, refurbishment and road signage, as well as the implementation of Road Steel’s road safety solutions. The project was completed two months ahead of schedule thanks to the efficiency and coordination of the teams involved.
We are proud to continue contributing to improving road safety on our roads.
