Improving Safety with Steel Barriers on a High-Altitude Corridor in Eastern Turkey
Our 360-degree approach allows us to carry out the design, manufacturing, and installation of our road safety solutions to ensure that vehicle restraint systems deliver optimal performance even in the most demanding environments. A clear example of this is the safety enhancement of a high-altitude corridor in eastern Turkey.
Road Steel has manufacturing operations in Spain, Mexico, Colombia, and Turkey, enabling us to supply products anywhere in the world, with Turkey being no exception.
In this case, our mission was to support the Erzurum Aziziye Junction Çat Karliova highway project through the supply of kilometers of highway guardrails. This section is of particular importance within the broader Rize–Erzurum–Bingöl–Diyarbakir–Mardin route, where terrain conditions, climate, and winter operations make infrastructure safety and performance even more critical than usual.
A key component of this corridor is the Çirişli Tunnel, a twin-tube crossing with a total length of 9,500 meters, designed to reduce the elevation of the pass by approximately 300 meters and help keep the road more accessible and reliable during the winter months.
The challenge was intensified by the severe winter conditions, which can significantly affect mobility, together with the risk of snow avalanches.
For this reason, the installation of these highway guardrails represents a significant contribution to corridor safety, a task we accomplished through:
44 kilometers of CPS03 H2 highway guardrails, double-sided configuration with H2W4 performance.
2.7 kilometers of CPS11 H2 highway guardrails, single-sided configuration with H2W3 performance.
By combining these two systems with our on-site execution expertise, we help deliver safer road infrastructure for all users, especially on routes where geometry, altitude, and winter exposure demand maximum reliability.
